OPENING QUESTIONS: List as many types of wave phenomena as you can... <go!>

LEARNING TARGET: I will be *intentional* in my attempt at the Waves Unit Pretest today
WORDS O' THE DAY:
CALENDAR:
WORK O' THE DAY:
- The waves unit pre-test is here. Please be intentional - in otherwords, take your time and take notes. ALL of the concepts/terms presented on that test are items that you will need to be comfortable with during this unit. There are a lot of terms that may be new to you or used differently than you expect. If you aren't sure of your understanding, use the interweb to confirm it.
-
This is open-interweb, however, I STRONGLY urge you to take notes and use this as a learning exercise (where you make an intentional effort to make it make sense) as opposed to a a DO-ing exercise where you do it just to get the darn thing done.
-
Let's take an initial look at ocean/water waves
- Now to look at the way, way tiny side of waves, let's talk gravity waves:
- Any suggestions?
- A brief history
- Let's take a look at THIS video that one of my astronomy students shared with me years ago. It quickly became one of my favorites-- HERE @ 13:45
- The LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) is a two detector system. One is located in Hanford, WA the other in Livingston, Louisiana
- Try having an actual conversation with the Wizard about how the LIGO works.
